“Every December we remind ourselves, Christ is come the story of Emmanuel, How Shepherds who were guided by the star light, Found a Savior in a manger on a silent night, a holy night… It’s Christmas, reminds us of the Promise and His name is Jesus, Rejoice ‘cause God is with us, It’s Christmas…”
Growing up, my family attached a paid special attention to Christmas holidays, we went to church, cooked a nice meal and had so much fun together. But I loved it because we it was a chance to spend time together as a family. Those who live or study or work in far off places travel to spend time with the family. I only begun to accord Christmas its true weight when I grew up. I gave my life to Christ and gained a clear understanding of what Christmas really means.
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given : and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”
John 3:16“ God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son , that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”
The scriptures above and many others tell us what Christmas is. The love God has for us. For me Christmas is the beginning of a journey, a journey of great love, a journey where God sought after us. A journey showing how He loved us so much that he went over and above everything to reconcile us to Himself, to save us from our own selves. A journey that He decided to take with full knowledge of what it would cost to reach the ultimate goal. And He still took it; for you and me.
Without the Savior’s birth, we would not have Jesus die in our stead and thus we would still be guilty and ‘liable’ for punishment for our sins. The beautiful hope that we have for eternity would not exist. The purpose of our lives would be in vain. And ultimately our lives would be meaningless.
This Christmas more than the others before is important to me because with this knowledge I am filled with hope and not anxiety for what the world is going through. I know that God loves us and we can trust that He has a plan that is good. Amidst all the hurt, the pain and the uncertainty; as individuals, families, a country, the world, we can still look to Him and celebrate because He is good and is working all things for the good of those who love Him.
Andrew Peterson and Ben Shive wrote the song “Is He Worthy?
They ask a couple of questions in this song pertaining to the brokenness of the world and the love of God upon us. They finally ask if there is anyone worthy, anyone whole, anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll…. And they conclude that Jesus is the Lion of Judah, who conquered the grave and is David’s root and the lamb who died to ransom the slave; He is worthy of all blessing and honor and glory.
Jesus is worthy indeed, we celebrate His birth and we ultimately celebrate Him.
This Christmas and for all our lives Let us celebrate Christ.
