God is love and humans crave love from their moment of existence. There are four unique forms of love which are communicated in four Greek words (Eros, Storge, Philia, and Agape) and are characterized by romantic love, family love, brotherly love, and God’s divine love respectively.

The word “love” describes an emotion with vastly differing degrees of intensity. As we explore the forms of love in the Bible, we will discover what love truly means and how to follow Jesus Christ’s command to “love one another.

Eros is the Greek word for sensual or romantic love. The term originated from the mythological Greek god of love, sexual desire, physical attraction, and physical love, Eros, whose Roman counterpart was Cupid. Love in the form of Eros seeks its own interest and satisfaction to possess the object of love. God is very clear in the Bible that Eros love is reserved for marriage. Promiscuity of all types was rampant in ancient Greek culture and was one of the obstacles the apostle Paul had to battle when planting churches in the eastern Mediterranean. Paul warned young believers against succumbing to immorality:

“So I say to those who aren’t married and to widows it’s better to stay unmarried, just as I am. But if they can’t control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It’s better to marry than to burn with lust.” (1 Corinthians 7:8–9).

Within the boundary of marriage, eros love is to be celebrated and enjoyed as a beautiful blessing from God:

Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.” (Proverbs 5:18–19; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 7:5; Ecclesiastes 9:9).

The term Eros is not found in the Old Testament, though Song of Solomon vividly portrays the passion of erotic love

The treasure found in true love (Eros) is a gift that we all deserve.
It is not just a word we say, but a bond we hold.
When you find the one your heart has always desired, that one person who truly understands
you, and cares for you at all times,
Once they come into your life, and help you grow, help you discover the real you.
It’s always worth appreciating.
You ought to hold them dearly never to let go.

To find a love so strong and true
Is all that we desire.
Finding true love sometimes takes a little longer
But getting the one you have always prayed for is divine.

Who knows love overtime?
True love is unwavering, unbreakable and immeasurably deep.

Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

It didn’t take long to realize how it would be so real.
I didn’t know but it happened to be that I was in love.
How could it be?
You already have a piece of me.
Your composure, kindness, gentleness always left me thinking.
When I talked to you,
I saw strength
I saw one that was so friendly yet loving
All I see is strength to move on
I have soon come to know how special you are to me, much more than you could ever imagine

I feel so blessed that we got the chance to meet
How can I describe this love?
How can I explain that this is true?
Love is a funny thing yet amazing
We’ll never understand
I value you with the utmost respect
I hope this will remain magical and new.

And as time slowly slips away,
I’d still cherish you just as much as when we first met
And as we travel through our lives with a lot yet to be found,
Remember that I will always be around.
And wherever life may take you and no matter where or when,

Your special place in my heart will be there.
I feel so blessed to have found a friendship and love so special and true
You will always be a part of me.
And even as time goes on, may our bond grow even stronger.

All in all, Love is one of the most powerful emotions humans can experience and the truest test of genuine faith.
Through the Bible, we discover how to experience love in its many forms and to share it with others as God intended.
In life, delving deep into my own experience.
